Upcoming & Past Weekends

Somerville House Junior School Father & Daughter Fishing & Adventure Weekend 2014 Review

It was a pleasure to host a group of 68 for the Somerville House Father & Daughter Fishing & Adventure Weekend on 21-23 March 2014.  The group gathered at Camp Lake Fire late Friday afternoon where the girls set up beds in the tents and the fathers utilised the cabin accommodation.  The first job for the girls was to make their own pizza and then one for their dad.  The girls had to stretch out their pizza base and then add all the desired ingredients.  Red claw was a popular topping for the dads.  Red claw are being caught in good numbers at the moment.  Rounding off the first night was toasting marshmallows over an open fire.  The following morning, the group split into two.  One group used all the tinnies and went fishing.  Each family also had a break during the fishing session and took part in boat tube rides, which were a hit.  The other group was involved in adventure activities.  This group split in two again and half went abseiling and half took up the challenge of the milk crate climb.  It was pleasing to hear reports that fathers were very proud of their daughters for completing the activities.  The abseil can be daunting, but character building at the same time.  The groups swapped over at the lunch break.

The Sunday morning session involved fishing once again, with the adventure activities consisting of canoeing and archery.  At the end of the day there were plenty of fish caught and it was a very enjoyable, social weekend.

Hi Steve
See attached some photos.
We all had a great weekend.
Amy did some things that I never thought she would be able to do at her age (ie abseiling). So very proud.
